About Mitchell Biggio

Mitchell Biggio is a multidisciplinary artist based in Atlanta, Georgia, whose work explores and constructs relationships between shifting elements to depict expressive, topographic moments of change. Drawing from landscape and natural forms, Biggio distorts and geometrically simplifies imagery to build a perspective rooted in time, memory, and the sublime. His resulting works function as mental architectures—objects that interact with light and the viewer’s movement to reveal shifting colors, highlights, and shadows. Through this abstraction, he seeks to understand the transitional phases that define both the self and the surrounding environment.

Biggio’s practice is driven by precision and experimentation, merging traditional, high-tech, and custom fabrication methods to create visually refined, structurally sophisticated works. Guided by clear conceptual frameworks, he continually evolves his processes, treating fabrication itself as a space for exploration and innovation. His refined forms integrate topographic and architectural elements, reflecting his interest in how material and spatial relationships evoke emotional and perceptual responses.

A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (BFA in Sculpture, 2015), Biggio is the recipient of the 2024–2025 Leap Year Residency at MINT ATL. His work has been exhibited widely, including the 2023 solo exhibition Forms in Exchange at Echo Contemporary Art in Guardian Studios and the 2021–2022 juried exhibition Gathered at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA). Alongside his individual practice, he collaborates with fellow artists to produce large-scale public and private sculptures and installations throughout the region.
